about

On 17 April 2020, Filament Zine announced an open call with the motto Let's make a compilation and invited us to create a compilation of music composed and recorded entirely during the quarantine.
Here is the result.
The 35 various style tracks, often (if not exclusively) inspired by the odd times in which we live, that were submitted from different parts of Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra and Crete) and abroad (the U.K., Germany), comprise Filament's first digital compilation, a music anthology of these days' thoughts and feelings.

The title of the compilation A piece of music that I wrote during quarantine borrows its form from Filament's core questionnaire, which, up to this day, has been answered by around 300 people in an attempt to document the contemporary independent music scene in Greece and those involved in it.

All proceeds from the compilation's digital release will be donated to support the initiative of The House of Women for Empowerment & Emancipation (find detailed text below). The recommended contribution starts at 5€ and, for those wishing to contribute more, there is the possibility of additional contribution.

Each month the sum gathered from the sales of the compilation will be transferred to the group.

The House of Women for Empowerment & Emancipation |
Self-Presentation text:
Our initiative ‘The House of Women for Empowerment & Emancipation’ is part of the anti-authoritarian solidarity grassroots movement. We are a self-organized feminist collective opposed to all states and borders, political parties, public or private institutions and NGOs. We are committed to the struggle for women’s emancipation and the end of gender-based and racial violence, homophobia, transphobia, sexism and the trafficking of women and children that is reproduced by the machinery of patriarchy globally.
For almost 4 years, we have been meeting with detained women, starting our visits at Helliniko and then at Petrou Ralli. We listen to detainees’ stories and demands and document the problems they face, attempting to answer their questions and give voice to their denunciations. At the same time, we try to foster and sustain a broader local and international social network of solidarity with other individuals and collectives through organizing events around imprisonment and other gender issues. We work to build and strengthen our relationships and empower one another, even after women are released from the detention center. Together we struggle for our liberation.
